AGAPE

Project 2019

Photography in collaboration with Daria Spoz and Lisa Scherebenko

agape opens a debate about the influence of the objects on people. Can dishes be a mediator of social bonds?

In our Western culture, the tableware has its own specific eating habits. These habits create the composition of individual implicit zones in which we act at the table. I have noticed, that most of the objects on the table can only be used individually and limit the interaction between the tablemates.
My work is based on three central concepts and ideas. First, the idea of a meal as a social event. As an identity-creating moment that evokes a collective feeling. Then the role of tableware as a mediator. As an instrument that goes beyond its primary function and can open up new levels to a meal. And finally, I want the shared objects to amaze and stimulate conversation.

My goal is to rethink the dividing zones imposed by the classic table setting. I would like to put the idea of exchange and communication back in the spotlight. The concept of a collective, trust-based table setting should be used to help promote meal-sharing. To break the division into zones and to create a shared space.
